Five miners have been rescued from a collapsed northern Chinese mine, state media reported on Saturday, leaving seven still trapped underground by the latest in a string of mine disasters in the country.Thirteen miners were in the pit in Xilin Gol, Inner Mongolia region, when it collapsed in the early hours of Friday morning, Xinhua news agency quoted the the rescue headquarters as saying. One of the workers managed to flee to safety immediately, leaving twelve trapped.Rescuers were able to drill a hole and provide food and water to sustain the trapped miners in the early hours of Saturday.Two of the seven still trapped on Saturday morning were confirmed alive, Xinhua said.Authorities said investigations found the pillars holding up the underground mine to be insufficient, Xinhua said.The collapse is the latest in a series of mine accidents in China, which has the worlds deadliest mining industry.Earlier this month, a gas explosion in the southwestern Yunnan province killed 35 miners, and eight remain missing.
