A blast at a coal mine in southern China has killed 29 people, in the latest disaster to hit the accident-prone industry, state media reported on Sunday (October 30).Thirty-five miners were working underground when the gas explosion happened on Saturday (October 29) afternoon at the Xialiuchong colliery in Hunan provinces Hengyang, the report said.All the 29 bodies have been recovered, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. CCTV footage showed family members of the dead coal mine workers waiting at the mine for the bodies to be brought up.Chinas mines are the deadliest in the world, due to lax safety standards and a rush to feed demand from a robust economy. In 2010, 2,433 people died in coal mine accidents in China, although this was an improvement on the toll of 2,631 a year earlier.
