UN leader Ban Ki-moon on Monday called on the Egypts military authorities to defend all faiths in the country after clashes in which 25 people, mainly Coptic Christian demonstrators, were killed.Ban also appealed to all Egyptians to preserve the spirit of the historic changes seen in the country this year which inspired the Arab Spring uprisings, a spokesman said.The secretary general is deeply saddened by the loss of life in Cairo last night. He appeals to all Egyptians to remain united and to preserve the spirit of the historic changes of early 2011, said UN deputy spokesman Eduardo del Buey.He calls on the transitional authorities to guarantee the protection of human rights and civil liberties for Egyptians of all faiths.Ban said there must be a transparent, orderly and peaceful transition in Egypt that includes free, fair and credible elections leading to the establishment of civilian rule.Egyptian military prosecutors were questioning 25 people accused of involvement in the Cairo clashes, Egypts MENA news agency said. Copts had demonstrating against an attack on a church when the violence broke out.
