Summary Strong winds caused severe damage in the Chicago area of US state of Illinois on Friday.
Gusts of wind barreling down at a speed of up to 50 miles (81 kilometers) per hour on Thursday night knocked down power lines in the town of Glenview. There were no reports of injuries.In another neighbourhood in Chicago, powerful winds tore down bricks damaging buildings and cars. There were around 6,200 residents without power in the area.
