Summary Funeral held amid speculation that killing may have been another drug-related attack on the press.

Family members and friends of two Mexican journalists found dead in a Mexico City park attended their funerals.Authorities investigated the murders of Ana Yarce and Rocio Gonzalez just a day after they were found in a park in a poor part of Mexico City.Daily newspaper Reforma said Gonzalez had apparently just withdrawn a large sum of money and the two women may have been victims of a violent robbery. But Yarce was the founder of investigative magazine Contralinea, and Contralinea Editor Miguel Badillo called the murders an attack on free speech. Its a crime that has caused deep pain, but we are going to continue moving forward. We arent going to stop investigating this issue until those responsible are captured. It seems to be an attack on freedom of press, against a publication that has kept itself independent of pressures, threats and attacks, governmental of private. We wont stop that either, even more so now that we have to find out who committed this crime, he said.Miguel Mancera, the attorney general for Mexico City, said the women were strangled to death and then shot twice.Dozens of journalists have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico in the past five years. However, the attorney generals office in the capital said the motive for the killing of the two friends was unclear. Both women were 48.
