Summary King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz will inaugurate expansion work of Grand Mosque in Makkah on Friday.
In order to accommodate additional 1.2 million praying congregation in the Grand Mosque at Makkah the Custodian of the Harmain Sharifain King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz will inaugurate on Friday the construction work for expansion on 400,000 square meters of area.According to Saudi embassy, the circumambulatory area (Tawwaf), will also be extended to accommodate at a time 1,18,000 circumambulators instead of the current strength of 40,000 persons. The new expansion with the Grand Mosque will be equipped with all modern facilities like uninterrupted cooling and connecting it with Masaa (running between Safwa and Marwah) by several bridges.
