Summary The farmers said that the snowfall over the past couple of days had been untimely.
Farmers in Lahaul and Spiti regions of Indias northern state of Himachal Pradesh are a dejected lot as they anticipate huge losses due to the damage caused to their labour by unexpected snowfall in the district.A farmer said all their efforts had gone waste since the entire crop has been damaged because of incessant rains and snowfall.“Entire crop is almost damaged. We can still manage with potato crops but peas have completely destroyed. For past three- four days, it has been snowing here and it has almost reached to six inches,” he said. The untimely snowfall will have an adverse affect on the economy of tribal regions, as the production of peas and potatoes is the only source of income for the farmers in the region of Lahual and Spiti that is at the foothills of Himalayan range and borders Tibet in China.
