Heavy rain lashed Thane district of Mumbai city in Indias western Maharashtra state on Saturday, drowning one person and affecting the normal life of millions.Low-lying areas of northern Mumbai, including Santacruz, Khar and Andheri, were inundated, creating trouble for thousands of commuters plying on that route.Several parts of Thane and parts of the district, including Nalasopara, Vasai and Virar, remained submerged under water.We have a lot of rains here and a lot of waterlogging happens too. The municipality does not do anything for us, said Naveen Kumar, a local.The residents took shelter in safer locations like temples, offices and schools.The Bhatan Bridge that connects Virar Township to around 30 villages was completely submerged under water.Meanwhile, the police conducted found a dead body, while the search for other missing persons is still on.The townships of Bhiwandi, Kalyan and other low-lying areas of Thane district experienced incessant rain and flooding in the region with rivers flowing above the danger mark.
