Summary A heat wave struck America's Northeastern coastal metropolises.
The temperature soared to 39c in New York, Boston and Philadelphia reached 39 and 40 respectively. In Newark, New Jersey, which is separated from Manhattan by the Hudson River, the temperature reached 42.2, a new record high.The hot weather caused numerous heat strokes and power outages while public cooling centers were opened to the public throughout New York. In some areas around the city, weekend sporting events and summer courses were canceled temporarily. According to weather forecast, the severe heat in the northeastern United States will last for few days.
