Updated on

Summary The Afghan forces have stepped up its security as ISAF will leave the country till 2014.

Afghanistan stepped up its security in the relatively peaceful western city of Herat province, as ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) troops prepared for the official handover of security responsibility to Afghan forces.Soldiers from the Afghan National Army carried out checks on people and cars in the province, 640 km (398 miles) west of the capital, Kabul, as part of the transition process. The Taliban has threatened to disrupt the handover across the country with various militant attacks, which would put to the test whether Afghanistan is ready to take control of its security.
