Summary Hundreds of people gathered in Lima to watch inauguration of the world's largest Christ statue.
The statue is 123 foot tall. Before this, Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro was considered the tallest with height of 108 foot.President Alan Garcia inaugurated the statue in Lima in presence of hundreds of spectators.Garcia said that he personally financed nearly $37,000 for the project and that he wanted to leave something to the Peruvian people when he steps down from office on July 28.The enormous structure was created in Brazil and brought to Peru in pieces, where it was assembled on the historic Morro Solar hill overlooking Limas bay and 12 miles (19 kilometres) of beach on the Pacific coast.
