Summary Protesters gathered outside the UN headquarters in New York, demanding UN action against Assad.

Close to 100 people held signs, chanting Free Syria and Long Live Syria as a mark of solidarity with the large pro-democracy protests held throughout Syria earlier in the day.The small, yet vocal rally was organised by the Syria First Coalition.The New York rally came amid reports Syrian helicopter gunships fired machine-guns to disperse pro-democracy protests in Syria, in the first reported use of air power to quell unrest in the countrys increasingly bloody three-month-old uprising.Ahmed Sidawy, a demonstrator, said he escaped Syria after being shot by government security forces during a demonstration in Lattakia City on April 15.After receiving medical treatment, Sidawy said he escaped Syria through Turkey.
