Officials say clashes broke out earlier over a Christian woman, who converted to Islam.Witnesses said that some 500 demonstrators gathered in front of a church, demanding to take custody of the woman whom they said had converted to Islam.A shouting match ensued between church guards and neighbours and the demonstrators. The verbal clash developed into a full-fledged confrontation during which the two sides exchanged gunfire, firebombs and stones.At least six people were killed in the clashes and 75 were wounded.The violence is another challenge to Egypts military rulers who are trying to restore law and order after President Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down in a popular uprising in February.
