Japan: Radioactivity cripples tourism industry
Updated on

Summary Japan lifted visa restrictions on Chinese individual tourists.

The continuing radioactive leak of Japans Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant has crippled the countrys tourism industry, plunging tourism-related enterprises into a desolate plight. The number of foreign tourists in March was 352,800, only half the number of last year, according to Japans National Tourism Organisation. Ginza, a must-go place for foreign tourists, has been plunged into miserable recession as virtually no foreign visitors are seen. Although Japan lifted visa restrictions on Chinese individual tourists and many enterprises in the city have made full preparations to greet Chinese tourists, including learning the Chinese language and putting up price tags in Chinese, they are quite disappointed as there are no Chinese tourists.
