According to German Police sources, eighty vehicles were involved in the mass pile-up, police said and at least twelve of them caught fire, according to German media reports. Police could not immediately say whether the stretch near the village of Kavelstorf had a speed limit or not.Many parts of Germanys motorways have no speed limits and cars are often travelling at speeds of 200 km/h (124 mph) and more.According to Rostock police, the A19 was closed in both directions.The A19 is one of the major highways leading to the Baltic Sea coast, a popular weekend destination with residents from Berlin and further south.
