After the British embassy issued warnings of a radioactive leak, most foreign nationals left Japan but the 46-year-old British teacher, Richard Halberstadt refused to return.Having lived in Japan for 19 years, Halberstadt stayed back to help rebuild the devastated country. He plans on rebuilding his home and the school building.Halberstadt said that he has been in the country for nearly two decades hence staying back was an easy decision as the country needs all the help they can get.Earlier, another British teacher, Robert Bailey was hailed as a local hero after he saved a group of 26 students by taking them to a higher ground just minutes before the tsunami swept away their school. Bailey said that he just had eight minutes to rush the students out of the building and then to a higher ground in fear of a tsunami as he saw a ‘mist wall’ coming from the sea.
