Summary The forest of Palamu Tiger Project in Jharkhand state is reeling under fire for several days.

According to forest officials, the blaze was caused due to burring cigarettes thrown into the forest. We are trying to bring the fire under control for several days. Our staff work whole night and as per the latest report, we have almost controlled it. You will not find any fresh fire.The cigarettes thrown by the passerby is the main reason of the fire breaking out, said Ashok Kumar Singh, Forest Ranger. He also said that the fire may not harm big animals but reptiles like snakes, lizards, etc. could be killed.No one has been reported injured in the fire that has devastated an area of 72 square kilometers of the forest area. Trackers and firefighters from the forest department are battling for weeks to douse the fire.The fire fighters are facing difficulty to put off the fire at night because of the low visibility and complex nature of the terrain.
