Summary Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang denied holding talks with Baloch militants
BEIJING (APP) -- China on Thursday denied holding talks with Baloch militants for the security of development projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and appreciated the measures the Pakistani government had taken for the protection of the CPEC and the Chinese citizens.
“I am not aware of such report,” Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Geng Shuang said responding to a question about a media report in that regard, during his regular press briefing here.
He said the security of the construction of the CPEC had always been consulted by both the Chinese and Pakistani governments.
The spokesperson said the Pakistani side had taken a series of important measures to that end, effectively protecting the corridor projects and the safety of Chinese citizens.”China appreciates this,” he added.
“We hope and believe that Pakistan will continue to step up its work to ensure the safety of the economic corridor between China and Pakistan,” he said.
Financial Times, in its report published on Monday, had claimed that China had been quietly holding talks with Baloch militants for more than five years in an effort to protect the $60 billion worth of infrastructure projects it is financing as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
