Summary Heavy snowfall in various parts of the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has upset routine life and communication links.

Among the worst hit was the hill resort of Kullu that experienced heavy snowfall and a common sight on Friday was the authorities engaged in supervising clearance of blocked roads.The heavy snowfall disrupted supply of electricity as stagnated snow damaged the wires. Avalanches and landslides led to a lot of problems along most of the roads in the district such as suspension of vehicular traffic. Hundreds of people were stranded on the roadside for want of transport.Meanwhile, the personnel of Border Road Organisation (BRO) had commenced clearing operations of roads so as to restore communication links.The resultant impact of heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh was experienced in the neighbouring state of Punjab. The city of Amritsar was enveloped in an unexpected thick blanket of snow in the month of March. Traffic along the roads was seen moving at a snails pace.
