Summary Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh accused Israel and the United States of plotting the unrest that has destabilised his country and the Arab world.
Addressing a group at Sanaa University, Saleh said the plot was aimed at guaranteeing the safety of Israel. He said that unrest in the Arab world was an attempt to create a fence to protect the safety and stability of Israel.Saleh, a US ally against al Qaedas Yemen-based wing, has been struggling to quell daily demonstrations that have swept across the impoverished Arabian Peninsula state, leaving 24 people dead in the past two weeks. Saleh’s comments came as tens of thousands of protesters flooded Yemens streets on Tuesday, dedicating a fresh Day of Rage to the 24 people killed in demonstrations demanding an end to the presidents three-decade rule. The 68-year-old leader, who has ruled Yemen for 32 years, has met with tribal and regional military leaders to rally support, but with oil and water resources drying up, he is less able to pay off allies to keep the peace.
