Summary US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that all options are on the table to try to persuade the Libyan government to stop using violence against protesters. Amid a violent crackdown on protesters in Libya, Hillary Clinton also said that Gaddafi government will be held accountable for its actions.
Addressing a joint news conference with Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota, Clinton said that everything will be on the table and we will look at all the possible options to try to bring an end to the violence, to try to influence the government. The US government estimates there are several thousand Americans living in Libya. Most hold dual citizenship with about 600 carrying US passports only. In a statement, Clinton also lambasted what she termed a deteriorating human rights condition in Iran, criticising the countrys security forces for beating and detaining demonstrators over the last 10 days.
