Summary Kurdish protesters clashed with police during protests marking the 12th anniversary of the capture of Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan. They were demanding the immediate release of Ocalan.

Protesters on Tuesday hurled rocks and fire bombs during clashes with police in 12 cities and towns across Turkey. Riot police used tear gas and water cannons to break up the protest over Kurdistan Workers Party leader Abdullah Ocalans continued imprisonment. At least 30 demonstrators were detained.Ocalan was captured in Kenya in 1999 and returned to Turkey where he was sentenced to death for treason. His sentence was later commuted to life in prison. His group has fought for autonomy since 1984.
