(Web Desk) - When most kids go abroad they prefer to keep in contact with their parents through cell phones or email. However for Jonathan Kubben Quiñonez this is too common an option and as he travels across the globe he posts a picture from each spot he visits holding a sign stating ‘MOM I’M FINE’ to let his mother know that he is all right.
Jonathan’s journey is an inspiring tale. In March 2016, he was living a good life in Brussels working as a consultant with two university degrees. However, one day while he was stuck in traffic Jonathan felt that his life had become a meaningless cycle where he was simply going through the motions. This realisation kept him up all through the night and as he stayed up he watched inspiring videos online including a powerful TED talk that inflamed his inner desire for travel.
By his 27th birthday Jonathan had made a decision. He gathered all his friends and family to tell them that he had decided to quit his job and buy a one way ticket to travel the world. The very next day Jonathan landed in the northern Caribbean nation of Cuba and began his journey.
To reassure his mother Jonathan tried to keep in touch with her. However, lack of Internet connections and expensive telecommunications made it difficult. Eventually Jonathan hit upon an easy solution that was to send his mother a picture of wherever he was while holding a large sign that read: “MOM I’M FINE”.

While the pictures relieved Jonathan’s mom they also had the unexpected side effect of helping the adventurer gain a truly massive social media following. Ever since Jonathan created an Instagram account of his journeys he has gotten more than 200,000 followers on the site along with a million likes. As his popularity grew Jonathan also began to put up videos of his various adventures so that his fans could see what he was up to.
