Summary Thousands of people descended on Liverpool city centre to celebrate Chinese New Year.

A lion, dragon and unicorn parade weaved its way through Nelson Street and Berry Street to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit. Chinatown also hosted a firecracker display and a Taste of China street market.Liverpool is home to one of Europes oldest Chinese populations and the largest Chinese arch in Europe. Councillor Wendy Simon, Liverpool City Councils cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: The Chinese community is a big part of Liverpools history and culture and the new year celebrations are always a great way for us all to join together and celebrate.
