Summary Former Prime Minister of Afghanistan returned to public life after an exile of over 20 years
KABUL: (Dunya News) – Former Prime Minister of Afghanistan Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has on Saturday urged Taliban to lay down arms and join the peace caravan as the Hizb-e-Islami founder returned to public life after an exile of over 20 years, reported Dunya News.
The international restrictions on Hekmatyar had been removed after a peace deal between his Hizb-e-Islami and the Afghan government.
In his first address after the return, Hekmatyar told the Taliban to give up on their ‘filthy’ war and join the peace caravan.
Hekmatyar was a strong member of the Mujahideen forces against the Russians in the 80s and also remained Afghanistan’s prime minister for two brief periods. However, he didn’t rule Afghanistan sitting in Kabul.
