Reiterating his inability to resolve Kashmir dispute, US President Barrack Obama maintained that the solution of the issue could not be imposed on both the countries. Obama, however, urged India and Pakistan to sort out an early resolution of the lingering issue that has been haunting them for decades. During a joint press conference with Indian PM Manmohan Singh at New Delhi, the US President was all-praise for the growing Indian role in the region, saying that the boosting of bilateral ties with India is a watershed event of the 21st century. Obama pledged to expand cooperation with India in civil nuclear technology and defence capability and for nuclear deterrence in the region. Obama affirmed to work with India for the uplift of South Asian countries. Replying to a question, Manmohan said that he wanted to resolve all the outstanding issues with Pakistan, but with a stiff face made it clear that terrorism and talks cannot go side by side. The Indian PM said that Afghanistan was also taken up during the meeting held between the two leaders who, he said that shared stance on Af-Pak strategy. Manmohan asserted that a strong Pakistan would benefit the whole globe. The US President urged India and Pakistan to talk to resolve their differences as he stressed the need for peace between the neighbours, who are vital for his plans in Afghanistan.Manmohan Singh said he had agreed with US President Barack Obama that protectionism was detrimental for both countries.Singh also welcomed the lifting of some US curbs on exports of sensitive technology to India and said the two countries would cooperate in the space, defence and nuclear sectors.
