Summary

Amidst unrest in Srinagar city of northern India's Jammu and Kashmir state, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of moderate faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), said that Kashmir issue has to be settled with the involvement of India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir. He said this while addressing a massive gathering at in the famous Jamia Mosque in Srinagar on Friday. He noted that any solution is not acceptable to the people of Kashmir unless all three parties agree on it. I want to emphasise on the fact that the issue of Kashmir is a multidimensional issue, concerning many sides. The violence in Kashmir and the widespread protest prove that the issue cannot be resolved by the involvement of only one side. Time is running out. If the issue of Kashmir is genuinely sorted out, then India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir will have to come together, he added. He also said that India should start a meaningful dialogue to end the crisis in the valley region of the state.Kashmir has been locked down for most of past two months, and protestors have defied curfews repeatedly to attack security forces with stones and set police stations on fire. The Kashmir valley is witnessing a surge of violence fuelled by separatist factions that forced the authorities to impose curfew frequently in several parts of the state.
