UN chief urges more from Israel to ease plight of Gazans

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged Israel on to make recent moves to ease its blockade of the Gaza Strip the beginning of a major shift in policy to help desperate Palestinians there.Israel has given the go-ahead for the international community to import construction materials into the territory, which is controlled by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.The secretary general has long called for a significant shift in strategy towards meeting the great needs of Gaza's population. Further steps must now follow to meet those needs and to allow the United Nations to accelerate and expand its efforts.
