(Web Desk) - The outer protective layer of a glass panel at a popular skywalk in central China's Henan province was cracked after a teenager struck it with the tip of an umbrella, international media reported.

The incident occurred at the glass observation platform at the Baoquan Cliff World scenic area. Following the damage, site management evacuated visitors from the platform as a precaution.

According to the management, the platform is constructed with three layers of reinforced safety glass. The damage was limited to the upper protective layer, while the two lower structural layers remained intact.

Officials said the platform's structural integrity and load-bearing capacity were not affected, and no injuries were reported.

Management said a replacement panel would be ordered from the original manufacturer. Visitors have also been advised not to strike or attempt to damage the glass surface with sharp or pointed objects.

Baoquan Cliff World was awarded China's highest 5A tourist attraction rating in 2024. The glass observation platform, built on a mountainside, attracts large numbers of visitors each year.
