Summary Food inspectors in SFL were charged with corruption

(Web Desk) – Officials of State Food Laboratory (SFL) and GHMC food inspectors were charged with corruption after being alleged of attemped forgery in biryani quality report in the Indian state of Telangana.

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana carried out surprise visits at SFL office. They caught SFL chief public analyst N. Ravindra and other inspectors while taking bribes from Haveli Bar and Restaurant in Begumpet to change the report of adulteration in chicken biryani samples. They took bribe of about Rs. 1.25 lac (INR) and urged a lab in Pune to forge the report.

The officials accepted bribes only to hand over some part of it to food control officials at GHMC and SFL. They wanted to manipulate the biryani quality reports from Haveli Bar and Restaurant in Begumpet. ACB director-general J. Purnachandra Rao said, “We conducted a surprise check at SFL and arrested five officials on Saturday.”

Amongst those charge includes assistant food controller, chief public analyst at GHMC, owner of Haveli Bar and Restaurant of Begumpet, hotel accountants and a record assistant at GHMC. The duty of SFL officials is to check the food samples from different restaurants as well as from products like red chilli powder, cereals, oil and fats, milk products, condiments, spices, beverages and more.
