Summary Drunken female passenger forced British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Tunis to land in Lyon.

A British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Tunis had to make an unscheduled landing in Lyon so that two drunken female passengers could be thrown off, airport and airline officials said Thursday.

The plane was forced to make the detour to the French city on the evening of December 31 after the two women, aged 43 and 50, attempted to force their way into the cockpit and became abusive towards staff.

BA said in a statement that the two women had been "disruptive and abusive towards crew members" and had been sent back to the UK after being handed over to French authorities.
