Summary An Indian trooper was crushed to death by a speeding truck on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The trooper, Anil Kumar, was hit by the truck while he was stationed on duty at the highway. He died on the spot.
Meanwhile, eight persons including five cops, who were part of squad of a senior police official, were injured in a head-on collision between a police Gypsy and a vehicle near Doondak on Rajouri-Poonch highway. Four of the critically injured persons were shifted to a hospital in Jammu.
On the other hand, an army officer and a civilian were injured in a firing incident in Pattan area of Baramulla district. The firing took place following an altercation between Major Maninderpal Singh and two youth.
The army officer, dressed in civvies, was carrying a pistol, which was snatched by the youth, who fired two shots before fleeing from the spot. One bullet hit Major Singh while the other a civilian, 70-year-old Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
Media reports said, the army is investigating why the officer had left his 29 Rashtriya Rifles camp in civvies and without any escort.
