A hippopotamus chased away from his herd at a South African game reserve has since become stuck in the lodges swimming pool. The pool, at the Monate Conservation Lodge north of Johannesburg, is big enough for the hippo to swim in, but with no steps, he is unable to climb out.A game capture team will sedate the hippo and lift it out of the pool with a crane on Friday, with much of the water having already been drained to make the extraction easier.Officials said the four-year-old hippos mother gave birth recently, and more dominant males forced him from the herd. He will be moved to another animal sanctuary once he has left the pool.
