Summary Singapore sets a new Guinness World Record by serving 2012 fish heads in a single sitting.

Singapore set a new Guinness World Record by serving 2012 fish heads to 2012 paying customers. The red snapper heads, a delicacy in Singapore, were cooked in a spicy curry broth by six different restaurants, part of celebrations during the food festival in Little India.C. Sankaranathan, the President of the Indian Restaurants Association, said he came up with the record-making idea to commemorate the year, but also to celebrate the best of Indian seafood cuisine. He added that the dish itself was unique to Singapore, an island state. No others is going to break this record. They cant. Its not easy to get so many fish heads in a day. Its really difficult to do it. Only in Singapore we can do it and we have done it. So we are safe, Sankaranathan said.Guinness World Records official adjudicator Tarika Vara was flown in from the UK specially, so that the record could be confirmed on the same day.She said Guinness World Record criteria included making sure the fish heads were edible and are consumed by patrons. She added that the new record is not specific to its style, and can be broken in future, even if the fish heads are cooked in a different way.Its not specific to fish head curry, because we do not have a sub-category for the food and drink record. We have the largest serving of fish heads. And within that, any organizer could create a dish in flavour of their region, their local flavours, Vara said. While the counting was underway, everyone was told to wait before they tucked into their fish head curries.Diner Sharon Yeo said she was happy to be part of the making of the record.I think its exciting. It has never been done in Singapore. It has never been done in anywhere else. I think its a feat to be able to serve 2012 piping hot fish heads all at one time. Its amazing, she said. The tickets for the dinner ranged from $50 SGD ($40 USD) to $1000 SGD ($791 USD) per head, depending on the location of the table.
