Summary An artist adopted a novel way to protest against hunger by blowing up 194 loaves of bread.
A different kind of protest against hunger in the world: The artist Janine Mackenroth blows up 194 loaves of breadIt might now be the perfect way of solving the problem of hunger in the world but it sure got attention: The artist Janine Mackenroth blew up loaves of bread in order to express her anger and frustration over the hunger crisis in the world.A person dies of hunger every three seconds. Hence the 24-year old student artist wanted to bring awareness to this fact with the creation of her work of art, Breaking Bread.Exactly 194 loaves of bread, as a metaphor for the countries in the world, were sent to the sky by explosives being stuffed into them.Mackenroth knows that her drastic way of expressing her frustration might not change anything, but it is just that: her expression of frustration.I dont know whether my work will change the works of the world, with all the things happening at the moment. I dont think so, she said. But I saw it as my duty to make my statement. Because otherwise I would not know why I became an artist in the first place. The short display of 15 minutes took month of preparation. The loaves of bread were donated by a bakery chain, technicians made sure that everything went according to plan and no art fan was hurt in the process.
