Summary Castellers de Vilafranca, a 150-member group, built multi-tiered human towers around New York City.

New Yorks skyscrapers were challenged with the rise of a 150-member human tower. Known as castells in Spain, the group called Castellers de Vilafranca has been performing around New York City for a week. While in Manhattan the team broke a world record by building the first eight-level castell ever. Each tower is an example of concentration, strength and balance and takes roughly 5-7 minutes to build and collapse. The tower is formed by a succession of wedding cake like tiers, which get smaller as the tower gets higher. The layers form as members literally climb over their teammates bodies, and then is topped by a nine year old child.Accompanying each build is inspirational Catalonian music played by a quartet. The Castellers de Vilafranca is said to be one of Spains best and has released a documentary film on their history called The Human Tower.
