Summary Citizens urged to monitor SIMs registered on their CNIC

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a fresh advisory warning citizens against the illegal use and transfer of SIM cards, reinforcing strict compliance with national telecom regulations.

The authority has stated that handing over a SIM registered in one person’s name to another individual is a punishable offence under the law.

It further emphasised that any SIM used for unlawful activity will be legally traced back to its registered owner, who will be held responsible.

According to the advisory, using a SIM registered under another person’s identity is strictly prohibited. The regulator has highlighted that such practices not only violate telecom laws but may also lead to legal action. The statement underscores the importance of maintaining accurate ownership and usage records for all mobile connections.

Citizens have been urged to remain fully aware of the number of SIM cards issued against their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). The authority advised individuals to regularly check their registered SIMs and immediately block any unknown or unnecessary connections. This step, it said, is essential to prevent misuse and protect users from being unknowingly linked to illegal activities.

The advisory also instructed the public to obtain new SIM cards only from authorised franchises or official customer service centres. This measure is aimed at reducing fraudulent registrations and preventing identity misuse. The authority stressed that responsible handling of mobile connections plays a key role in curbing cybercrime and other unlawful activities, urging citizens to adopt safer communication practices.
