Gilgit-Baltistan gets green signal for 5G trials

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit Baltistan and SAFRON Engr Amir Muqam has announced that policy directives which will enable Telecommunication Companies, to conduct 5G trials in Gilgit-Baltistan have been formally approved.

Muqam, who is also the Minister Incharge Gilgit-Baltistan Council said these policy directives were prepared by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which works as agent on behalf of Gilgit-Baltistan Council for the region, said a press release.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Council has approved these directives in terms of article 60(2) (a) read with entry No.1 of Third Schedule of Order 2018.

It is expected that introduction of 5G will pave the way for accelerated digital transformation, improved connectivity, and enhanced opportunities for innovation across the region.

Having achieved this milestone, Gilgit-Baltistan Council reaffirms its commitment to play a pivotal role for the progress, modernization, and integration of people of Gilgit-Baltistan into the global digital economy.

Muqam said the initiative would improve digital connectivity, support tourism and facilitate business activity in Gilgit Baltistan.
