Summary IT Minister Shaza Fatima said better internet and 5G will improve services, transparency and boost digital economy.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said quality internet services would bring significant improvement in education and health sectors while reducing distances.

Addressing the European Union Pakistan Business Forum, she said 3G and 4G internet services were launched in 2016, after which the number of mobile phone users in the country continued to rise.

She clarified that the government had no desire to shut down the internet and did not possess such authority.

The minister said a cashless economy increases transparency and reduces chances of fraud, adding that Digital Pakistan is PM Shehbaz Sharif’s vision aimed at steering the country toward a digital economy.

She further said the internet plays an important role in every sector and the introduction of 5G technology would not only increase internet speed but also promote online businesses.
