Summary French TV and radio stations cannot ask the audiences to consult them on Twitter or Facebook.
French TV and radio stations can tweet but they cannot ask the audiences to consult them on Twitter or Facebook.Visible or audible references to branded products outside dedicated advertising periods have been banned in France since 1992. The proper way is to ask the audiences to check their social networking sites without referring to a particular one. The warning came as one of Frances most widely consulted dictionaries released a new edition that includes the word tweet for the first time in a country that has long been a reluctant importer of English words.Because Facebook and Twitter are commercial brands they cannot be advertised during the dedicated advertising periods. Radio and TV stations which refer their audiences to Twitter and Facebook by name are breaching that law and risk fines if they fail to comply.
