Facebook sued for US$ 1 billion over fan page

Summary Facebook has dismissed the case as without merit and said that it would fight the case.

Facebook and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg have been hit with a lawsuit seeking more than US$1 billion in damages over a page on the social network website which called for a ‘Third Intifada’ against Israel. The suit was filed by Larry Klayman, founder of the conservative public interest group, Judicial Watch.Earlier in the week, Facebook shut down the page which had almost 500,000 fans. Whereas, the lawsuit filed in a court claims that Facebook showed negligence by not quickly responding to appeals to remove the page.Israeli Public Diplomacy Minister Yuli Edelstein also sent a letter to Zuckerberg urging him to remove it.Facebook said the page was initially tolerated because it called for peaceful protest. After direct calls for violence appeared, the page was removed for violating Facebooks policies.
