Summary Multiple Personality Disorder day is being observed on March 5 the world over. This day is observed to show solidarity with the patients suffering from this disorder.

Multiple Personality Disorder commonly known as MDP is a psychological disease and the patient of this disorder could have more than one personality. MDP is also known as Dissociated Identity Disorder and is one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses in medical circles. The disorder is most likely to occur if a person is constantly involved in problems. An injury or shock sustained in childhood can also contribute to the growth of this disorder. In order to forget the past incidents, the mind creates a new personality given the patient dual personalities. As a result the patient completely forgets the incidents that haunt him. The new personality is called ‘alter’. These ‘alter’ syndromes can affect anyone no matter how mentally strong he or she may be. A majority of people think that these alters are demons and resort to exorcists for treatment of the patients.
