Summary Abraham Masri revealed chaiOS bug in iPhones that makes Apple devices vulnerable to crashing
(Web Desk) – One simple text message containing a link to capitalise on the major flaw in iPhones can freeze and crash Apple devices, a security researcher told in his startling claim.
Abraham Masri tweeted the link which can freeze and then force restart the recipient’s device. He called the iPhone flaw “chaiOS bug” and said, “Text the link below, it will freeze the recipient s device, and possibly restart it.”
He cautioned the people to avoid using the link for bad purposes as it has already been tested by his team.
According to the claims, the iOS devices including Mac crash immediately and forced to restart whenever the link is sent to anyone. Hackers and other mischievous elements may use the link to get inside someone’s phone and breach security.
It was seen that the chaiOS bug has the ability to crash the Messages app on iPhones. It can freeze and force restart the phone.
How it happens?
It was told that the Messages app in iPhones can crash when trying to load the link in which metadata is stuffed with thousands of unnecessary characters. When the iPhones witness this huge unexpected and unnecessary information, they take the entire iOS down.
Masri admitted that he posted the link to get Apple’s attention on the serious matter. The link has now been taken down by the site.
Solution
It was suggested that users should block the domain of site hosting such links, delete the thread where the link was sent, reset the iPhone at once to factory settings and wait for a patch or security update from the company.
