Summary Clear ID has optical in-display fingerprint sensors for one-step biometric authentication in phones

(Web Desk) – Touch display manufacturer that supplies the screens to smartphone giants like Samsung has now announced to roll out the world’s first in-display fingerprint sensors for smartphones.

Synaptics has launched Clear ID for mass production in the next year that will be used in various smartphones. “Clear ID is faster than alternative biometrics such as 3D facial, highly-secure with SentryPoint™ technology, and very convenient with one-touch/one-step biometric authentication directly in the touchscreen display area of smartphones,” the company said in its media release.

It added that these in-display fingerprint sensors will have one-touch high-resolution scanning through full cover glass and enable sleek, button-free, bezel-free infinity displays. It will not matter whether the screens are unlocked with wet, dry or cold fingers as it is protected by scratchproof and waterproof glass.

The Verge report claimed that there will be fingerprint sensors under the display from 2018 onwards. The much-awaited smarpthones from Samsung and other brands are likely to use this technology. Currently, the smartphones have fingerprint sensors either in the front or back. They are also on the home button of the flagship smartphones.

However, Apple was said to shift from Touch ID to Face ID. The futuristic technology may still be of value during the next year. Synaptics mentioned in its press release that they will be working with top five OEM, meaning that Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, or Xiaomi could be part of their venture.
