A German software company has figured out a way to make actors appear thinner or heavier on screen. It can also alter muscle tone and body shape. The goal is to use this software to help advertisers promote their products in different markets and across cultures, where standards of beauty may differ. Another use is to allow studios to make films like Raging Bull without having Robert De Niro put on 60 lbs in two months to portray the character. The developers say their software will save money because advertisers could avoid shooting multiple campaigns taking into consideration varying standards of beauty ... across cultures.
