Low vision inflicts $7b loss to Pakistan: expert

Summary Australian Professor says that impaired vision inflicted $ 7 billion loss to Pakistan annually.

 

Islamabad: Visiting Australian Professor Dr Brien Holden is of the view that Pakistan is bound to bear this heavy loss because its people could not see properly.

 

He further added that around 25 million Pakistanis were prone to eye diseases; so Brien Holden Vision Institute was established in Pakistan to help Pakistanis in overcoming eye sight weakness and blindness.

 

He also revealed that Australian government was generous enough in dolling out required funding for making project as success. “Same level of cooperation was also demonstrated by Pakistani government and departments concerned as Pakistani government extended full cooperation in registration process of establishment of network of our organization” he said in an exclusive chit chat with ‘ONLINE’.

 

Although, he added that 1 % to 2% Pakistani population was facing problems related to low or impaired vision and they were also deprived of chances and opportunities to get proper advice and cure to eye related diseases, yet amazingly, Pakistani institutions and organizations were excitedly working to overcome blindness.

 

“We are planning to establish offices of our organization in other cities of Pakistan also with the active cooperation with several Pakistani health related educational institutions|” he observed.

 

To a question about Pakistan’s perception abroad, Professor Dr Brien Holden said that he was on his maiden visit to Pakistan and found nothing dangerous or frightening as well as law and order situation was not as worst as was portrayed in the outer world.

 

“I found Pakistani people loving, hospitable and industrious and peace-long” he observed recalling that one of his friend who made several trips to Pakistan, had always been praising generous nature of Pakistani people.
