Summary Speaking to the media, Wasim Akram said the nation needed to be told the truth about the current state of cricket in the country.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has said that bringing in even the world’s best coach would not make a difference to the national cricket team without addressing the underlying issues.
Speaking to the media, Wasim Akram said the nation needed to be told the truth about the current state of cricket in the country.
“This is the only talent available in the country right now,” he said, stressing that there was no quick fix for the team’s problems.
The former captain said the alarm bells had rung five years ago and there was still no strategy other than patience and planning.
Wasim Akram also questioned the impact of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying that despite the tournament having been around for 10 years, not a single batsman had emerged from it.
He said the domestic cricket system established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should be allowed to run for three or four years to produce results.
He also called for the revival of club cricket, stressing its importance in developing talent at the grassroots level.
Wasim Akram said he felt disheartened watching the national team’s performances, adding that just as every Pakistani was disappointed by the team’s current showing, he felt the same way.
