(Reuters) - Australia paceman Mitchell Starc took five wickets in 22 balls in a brilliant spell of quick bowling as Bangladesh staggered to lunch at 35 for six on day one of the second test in Mackay, Queensland on Saturday.
Starc's was the sixth-fastest five-wicket haul in tests. The left-hander holds the record for the fastest, having taken five wickets in 15 balls against West Indies in Kingston last year.
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was 11 not out, with number eight Hasan Mahmud on eight at the break.
Starc removed both Bangladesh openers, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and wicketkeeper Litton Das for ducks to leave the tourists at 12 for five, after Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field.
Opener Shadman Islam was out with the first ball of the match after sending a thick edge flying to Cameron Green in the gully.
Opener Tanzid Hasan followed in Starc's next over with a loose drive sending a nick to Beau Webster in the slips, before Shanto was trapped lbw on the next ball, leaving Bangladesh at 9 for three.
Starc grabbed his fourth wicket when number three Mominul Haque drove at a full, wider delivery, nicking to Green at the gully. He took his fifth with another lbw to remove Das.
Cummins bowled Bangladesh number five Mushfiqur Rahim for five on a bouncy pitch likened to a typical Gabba wicket.
