DHAKA (Dunya News) - Bangladesh were batting at 128-2 in their first innings just after lunch against Pakistan in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
Pakistan won the toss and put the home team in to bat. Pakistan’s fast bowlers kept Bangladesh batsmen under pressure early in the morning. Shaheen Afridi grabbed the first wicket at 18 runs when Mahmudul Hasan was dismissed for 8.
The second wicket fell at 37 runs when Shadman Islam was dismissed for 13 by Hasan Ali.
Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto stabilised the innings and took the score to 128 when last report came in. Mominul was batting at 39 and Najmul Hossain Shanto at 57.
The two-match Test series between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team got underway in Dhaka, with Pakistan opting to bowl after winning the toss.
Pakistan handed Test debuts to Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal for the first match of the series.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam was unavailable for selection due to a knee injury. The team management confirmed on Thursday that Babar would miss the first Test due to knee injury. The officials did not disclose the severity of the injury or a possible recovery timeline.
According to the team management, Pakistan’s medical staff are continuing to assess the condition of the former captain. Further updates regarding Babar’s fitness and availability for the remainder of the series are expected in the coming days.
The second Test between the two sides is scheduled to begin in Sylhet on May 16.
