Batting first after being put in by Islamabad United, Hyderabad Kingsmen endured a nightmare start that never recovered. Richard Gleeson struck on the very first delivery of the innings, removing Maaz Sadaqat for a duck and immediately putting the new entrants under pressure.
The early breakthrough opened the floodgates as Gleeson returned to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne for five and Saim Ayub for 12, reducing the Kingsmen to 24 for 3 inside the powerplay. The top order struggled to cope with United’s pace and movement, leaving the innings in disarray.
The pressure built by Gleeson was sustained and intensified by Islamabad’s spin attack. Captain Shadab Khan and veteran all-rounder Imad Wasim delivered a clinical spell in the middle overs, dismantling the Kingsmen’s batting depth with precision and control. Both spinners picked up three wickets each, choking scoring opportunities and breaking any attempt at recovery.
Despite the collapse, wicketkeeper Usman Khan showed resistance with a lone fighting effort, remaining unbeaten on 25 from 35 balls, but lacked support from the other end. Only Saim Ayub, Kusal Perera and Asif Mehmood managed to reach double figures, scoring 12 runs each in an otherwise one-sided innings.
Hyderabad Kingsmen were eventually bundled out for 80 in 15.5 overs, setting Islamabad United a target of just 81 runs.
Islamabad United made light work of the chase despite the early loss of Devon Conway, who was dismissed for a duck. Mohsin Riaz provided the most explosive contribution of the innings, smashing 42 runs off just 18 deliveries, setting the tone for a swift finish.
Sameer Minhas anchored the innings with an unbeaten 27 off 20 balls, while captain Shadab Khan added the finishing touch with an unbeaten four from a single delivery as United raced to 83 for 2 in just 6.4 overs. The innings included 10 extras, further easing the chase for the three-time champions.
United’s dominance with both ball and bat ensured a comprehensive result, with Gleeson, Shadab and Imad Wasim all finishing with three wickets apiece in a standout collective bowling performance.
